Sketching in Helsinki

Here's a couple of sketches I drew in school. It's good to have course where one is made to look all kinds of things and take reference. We had to practise drawing movement, space, people and details. We were also encouraged to use various mediums from ink to papercutting.

A space in the sewers

These are actually the first set drawings I've ever done. Not that they'd be accurate enough for set builders, but at least there's a guideline.

Hair doodle

I've been drawing quite a lot lately but it seems I can't keep up with posting them here. I've tried some new media and hoping to get something finished by the weekend. There's also a couple of movie projects I'd like to post about if I get the permission. Anyway here's one doodle from the past few weeks. Prepare for a massive sketch dump post during this weekend!

Did some simple colors on this. I'm still painting with touchpad. It's kinda sad cause I actually have a wacom next to my laptop thanks to my friend Maija. The thing is that my computer won't work with it even though we've installed the drivers right and tried practically every trick we could think of. So I'm stuck with this misbehaving machine and a 7x4,5 cm touchpad. It's not a disaster though. I've painted like this many years now and got very used to it. It just pisses me off to know all this could be much easier and faster to do. I guess I'll just have to take the situation as a learning experience.

Creature evolution part 2

Creature sketches

First sketches for a comission. I've only drawn couple of versions of this character and now I'm trying to take it further. It's interesting to see how these ideas evolve when one keeps drawing. I've still got lot of things to try out. We'll just have to wait and see how many versions it takes to get it right.

Here's an example of different kind of sketching styles I use. I actually prefer more rough and expressive sketching for some reason. These things have some life and character to them.
